Help us put the Mobile Health
Services Unit on the road!
What?
In the fall of 2007, the Lakeside Wellness Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Sutter Lakeside Hospital & Center for Health, kicked off a campaign to raise $250,000 to purchase a Mobile Health Services Unit (MHSU) to address some of the county’s most pressing health problems and bring fundamental healthcare services directly to those who need them most.
The Matching Grant
The Lake County community has contributed over $50,000 to date. We still need to raise an additional $200,000 to get the MHSU on the road. But the challenge just got 50% easier. Sutter Health, the Northern California not-for-profit network of community-based health care providers that Sutter Lakeside is a part of, has offered to match our MHSU campaign dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000, if we can raise the match in donations and pledges by December 31, 2008.
Why an MHSU?
In Lake County, 20% of the population and 31% of the county’s children are living below the poverty line; 10% of the community is struggling with access to health care.
That’s over 6,000 children, seniors and adults with nowhere to turn for the most elemental of healthcare services such as vaccinations, nutritional counseling, and annual physicals: the building blocks of lifelong health. Your financial support of the MHSU is an opportunity for you to make an investment in our community that will return benefits for years.
About the MHSU
The MHSU will travel to all the rural nooks and crannies throughout Lake County, reaching folks in these isolated pockets who aren't hooked up to any services. The MHSU will also be a resource for senior and community centers.
The MHSU is designed to withstand the rough roads of Lake County. It is commercially built and loaded with specialty diagnostic equipment, its own power and water sources, and essentials including exam tables, secured cabinets and specially designed chairs.
When fully up and running, the State-of the Art MHSU will provide:
- well child assessments
- flu shots
- heart disease screenings
- lab work
- free health library
- physicals
- health risk assessment
- immunizations and vaccinations
- asthma and lung disease screenings
- wellness coaching
